Advocate: Testing for Ovarian Cancer

There is no test or screening for ovarian cancer. When a woman experiences symptoms of ovarian cancer, it is often once the disease has spread in the body and at an advanced stage. Most reproductive cancers are discovered during a pelvic or ultrasound exam. Often, insurance companies do not cover these exams without a diagnosis. The Oshun Charitable Organization partners with hospitals and local community health centers that serve Black women to provide educational materials about ovarian cancer. In addition to providing materials, our organization will advocate for early testing with doctors who work with Black women who are lower-income and underinsured.
